Dear Colleagues,

The number of individuals complaining of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other environmental illnesses is gradually increasing in countries with a Western lifestyle.

Although the WHO’s ICD (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems) recognizes e.g. Multiple Chemical Sensitivity as a valid diagnosis, most national health care authorities have yet to adequately translate this into health policy.

Patient’s organizations and environmental medicine in many countries are fighting for recognition by the health care system and public health authorities. Multinational, interdisciplinary research cooperation and clinical trials set out to identify the underlying biochemical and cellular derangements and to develop effective treatments.

We invite patients, physicians, scientists and responsible persons involved in health policy to join our minisymposium “Approaches to environmental Illness 2012” in Hamburg.

Scientists and Physicians from the US and several European countries will report on and discuss the latest biochemical, cellular, genetic and clinical progress as well as options for future research. It is our goal to increase awareness and to expand the understanding of these diverse environmental illnesses.
